The grace period is really nice and lets you get set up to not lose instantly. Perhaps the player could start with a set amount of wood and then have less grace period. It would help remove having to do the initial tree clear before building every game.
I know this is probably frustrating to hear but I found that it's now way too easy. If you survive the beginning it becomes incredibly easy. I'm at the point where I have gone AFK and left the game running for about 40 minutes and I'm still alive (currently at 45k gold :D), going to keep it running and see where I get to, if I can even die at this point. It seems that enemy scaling might not be working properly or needs to be tweaked to be a bit stronger as the game goes on.
There are some performance issues. Once I spammed down a few knights and had a decent amount of archers on the board, the game slowed down significantly, making it very hard to navigate and place objects. Also once the game was lagging, I could somehow place things on top of each other (like having a wall, dummy and archer all on the same tile).
Some tips for those struggling:
-The main thing making me lose was not blocking the first few bombers with a wall further away from my king.
If they got close it would take out all my first archers and then all was lost.
-BLOCK THE BOMBERS, seriously always keep a little wood to place a wall down and block these guys from ruining everything, once you're set-up its not as important, but in the early game its 100% necessary.
-Let your king take a few hits early if you have to. Don't block the path to the king with your units. Instead let the king take a few hits while you finish getting a good defense up. If you make the units protect the king they'll keep dying and you'll never get enough units out to survive.
Overall I really enjoyed this game and I'm looking forward to see where you take it!
Thanks for your feedback and kind words! The next update will be focusing on optimization and difficulty. We did notice that the pendulum has swung too far in the other direction in terms of how easy the game is, so we'll be working on that.
We'll implement stronger enemy scaling health and also a new enemy type to shake things up! Thanks for checking us out.
EDIT: Your thoughts about the grace period are great. I think we will reduce the grace period but start out the player with a decent amount of wood :D
So a bunch of us saw this game the second you put this up here and we all took a swing at it. Being avid gamers with quick reflexes and programmers as well....we need to tell you this game is amazing...but impossible. Not one of us was able to live more than a few seconds. We think you got a bit over zealous with the mobs. They are way too fast and strong and bum rush so hard you cant do a thing. The time it takes to cut down a tree is way too slow as well. The fact that the king cant move makes it even more impossible. The walls go down in a few hits, and the archers that you have to put up die immediately as well. We tried a bunch of strategies like placing the archers off in the corners or even surrounding the king with walls till we can get a knight in or even started with dummies. Not a thing worked. You just gotta tone it down a bit. Did you try playing this yourself lol? I know when developing a game, we build it around what we think is possible. But when it is OUR creation it is easy to do. No one else will be able to do it though. The other issue is that the number keys also use precious seconds because there are 6 of them and hands arent usually big enough to reach or fly to the keys that fast. Put in the fact that you have to remember what number goes with what and how much of what material is needed. Yea there is no way this is playable. The first thing you can do is to nerf all the enemies and raise the hit points on the 6 items. Slow down the enemies and the red bomb is uncalled for lol. Speed up the cutting time for the trees or have them drop alot more wood. And the enemies drop alot more gold. The way to fix the 6 choices is to be able to cycle each cursor item via the scroll wheel. Make the zoom in and out be the page up and down keys or q and e keys. Its much more important to scroll the cursors than the screen. With that....you need to move the reference box that shows the 6 cursor choices way closer to the play area. Like either allow the player to move it themselves or have it be smaller and put it really close to the king. It feels uncomfortable as is. Let me know what you think. This game has alot of potential if things are changed. Its an awesome concept. Good work!
Thank you so much for such a detailed comment. You make a good point about the game's difficulty. I'm usually able to survive at least five minutes by rushing four archers around my king and then making a diamond shaped box. Early game a box with archers is king! (No pun intended)
We will tone down the spawning of the monsters and see if it helps. In a future update we will also have a system where the longer the archer and knight is alive, their 'rank' will increase. Giving them more health and attack power!
Again, thank you for your feedback and we will be looking at everything you've said. We are new to making games, so many of these things are not obvious to us. Have a good one!
EDIT: Archers can shoot over walls. Maybe I will make this clear in the instructions.
yea we saw that right away lol...the archers die too fast still. At one point we had archers and walls boxing in the king. It went to hell real fast even with that set up lol.

Hey, I played after Update#1.
